Can anyone help my Meyer loosing leaves & don't want to lose any or all fruits?

No worries..You came to the right place for help) Let me see what others have said and what I can do)

It is a classic leaf drop caused by changing light conditions; no cure for the yellowing leaves; but new leaves will come.

John is right, even if your tree were very healthy, you would get its of leaf drop if not acclimated properly to indoor or outdoor conditions..

I wish you could of found us months ago when it was the best time to repot..

Could you also take a picture of the mix up close? Many have had issues with Coco in their mixes and most don't have much success with compost in their pots unless they can leave them out all year and use let them come in contact with the earth, like a raised bed...

You mix to be quit bliny is slowly killing you tree because I can tell even without the yellowing views, that the leaves have been suffering for quite some time. They should be straight , nice and green and flat...They should look ironed out, you know? No wrinkle and no curling..The roots have been having a problem for a long time and I am not sure how long you have been growing citrus, but if you had known them well, you would of came for help a long time ago)

If you want suggestions on what to do with that mix, let us know, better late than never..If you want to keep the same mix and leave it alone, then let us know and we can suggest a few things for you)

By the way, at what temps is that tree kept in and how much light? That's my second concern..

I WOULD NOT FERTILIZE at this time until the roots are healed up and functioning properly.. Instead I would flush that mix out if you don't repot at this time and I mean really good once that mix dries out..

Before I repotted 7 mo. (It was cropped close when I got it & root bAll is high & close not streached out.,looked like a bush w I got it) was told to give every wk all summer mycorizza & I did,on two.one was a cutting& it took all summer but has great roots, both never grew much. Cutting did well w root growth, big one the root ball SAME close root ball no holes, white roots looked good .checked both roots in May & oct so I know there shape. No root rot,I didn't take 2weeks for big one to get use to change in light & heat.what else. Can I do? I added 1/2 pearlite to be sure of drainage .i was told by Vladimir to ad foliage pro for leaf fro but never told me if leaf spray or soil water? It's in high 70s in my rm.125 watt CFL bulb 4600K .14 hrs.a day.lots of flowers lost lot of leaves2Xs. 1st. When I brought it right in & 2nd. Time after blooms near blooms. What can I do to get leaves to grow & Any fruit I get ID like to keep? Please help? I've asked many times questions but never got a reply but Vladimir, today & Ive written for 7 mo. Now!!! I DID TRY BUT WHEN YOUR NEW & NOT ONE OF REG.CROUD!

It is very hard to understand what you are asking. I think you are saying your roots are good so you must be watering ok. Vladimir said to use Folage Pro. The directions are on the label. You can use it on the soil and use it on the leaves as a foliar spray but you use a diluted amount if you spray directly on the leaves versus watering into the soil. If your plant dropped leaves when you brought it in, John was telling you that was normal for a Meyer Lemon to do that when the light they receive is changed quickly. When it adjusts to the new conditions the leaves will grow back again. To avoid the leaf drop, move the tree slowly to new light conditions. When you bring it outside do not put in direct sun immediately. First put it in shade, and then to a place which is a little brighter and move it each day to a slightly brighter spot. It will take about 2 weeks before it adjusts to bright sunlight. When you bring your tree back inside in the fall do the reverse process......a little more shade every day for about 2 weeks. Also you seem to wonder why your little tree flowers, but the flowers fall off. That is normal for a small tree. It is not strong enough to make flowers that will turn into small fruit yet. It will try and make flowers the first several years, but until it is oler and healthy enough the flowers will fall off. The tree makes many flowers but it can't support all the fruit so only a few will survive as fruitlets as the tree gets bigger. You only want it to keep one or two fruits at first as the tree is not healthy enough to make fruit and still grow leaves. As it grows larger it will bear much more fruit. Your tree may need more light than than you are giving it indoors. Is it in a window as well as under the light bulb? It will need a lot of light when it is 70°. This board is usually pretty busy and people are very good about answering questions but sometimes some questions get missed. You should just ask again or bump up your question.

I don't even see where Vladimir helped you on this one..You did not even thank anyone else that helped you or all the time it took me to type you..You ignored everything I had to say...Like I said , those leaves look horrible for that those trees..you still have a root issue and if you don't believe it, there is nothing else I can do...If you have healthy roots doing their job, your leaves would look much better than that..Good luck...

Ok, you just found out the problem with your trees without even realizing itt..And please, if you would like further help, be a bit nicer about it and stop writing in CAPS..It seems rude and no one will stick around for that..Can you take helpful suggestions?

What you did was totally wrong for your trees just as John stated above.

You are seeing the results from poorly acclimating your trees to come inside..Temps also play a key role..If your trees were use to the 40 degree mark, heating up like that as fast as you did might even kill your tree.I would never use a heat mat unless I was propagating seeds or small cuttings..By the way, if your trees have been outside in the cold for a long period of time, below 55, that is what happens to leaves, like what has happened to yours..They get light, wrinkly and fall off.....I would not worry so much as long as you say the roots are growing and see if the leaves come back...

Have you learned anything from Cory, Vladimir or Me yet?

What are you going to d o from here and we can tell you if what you are going to do is going to have a bad or good affect on your tree..

if you come back, DON"T WRITE IN CAPS or I will not help anymore..Thank you)

Thank you Mike ,I said thank you earlier! I did say I brought it in from outside all summer( Very hot & Sunny 7 mo. ,to a warm apt & I did change the indoor light. We don't get good indoor sun in windows so I got a CFL set up.so yes light & TEMP changed fast but I've got flowers everywhere a mo. After repotting.I only put a little of coir & mostly pearlite .Tell me what can I ad to make the mix better without repotting if you please!? ? My small Meyer was 3" when I got it & now I grew a 2 ft.tree from 3" no lie how small it was.I was so surprised that they'd send a cutting so small & with 4 Lil roots ,I really thought it would die! That was the one I was writing about all summer but got no reply. So I guess I did OK on my own ,never having such a small Meyer cutting before.I had a Meyer that I ignored & it grew great , only got a little sun 2 mo. In summer. My apt. Was in back of Bld.me NEVER got sun in windows or out back where I had to put plant .it never got flowers but lived 4ever,I really miss that tree but I've got flowers & a pot full of roots! Any idea what I should ad to soil to make it better? I'd be Greatful for advise? It took a longtime to get a reply,I've got to tell you .

Hi again Christine. Most of us use the 511 mix which is 5 parts fine fir bark fines (1/8-1/4 inch), 1 part perlite, and 1 part peat moss and 1 tablespoon lime per gallon of mix. It is very light and airy. Your mix of Perlite and coir sounds like it drains well too and since your roots are great you should keep using it. The Foliage Pro fertilizer is very good. You will need a good fertilizer as your potting mix does not contain nutrients in it although it is nice and light and airy. Always try to make changes to your tree gradually and watch how it adapts. It often takes a few weeks to adapt to any changes. Your tree sounds like it is actually growing very well. If you have good roots it will do fine. The flowers and fruit will stay on as it gets older and is fertilized regularly. Try to give it lots of bright light. It is hard to grow a citrus plant in a dark apartment, but if you are getting flowers and fruitlets, you are doing well. I think your tree is just young yet even though it has grown from 3 inches to 2 ft. Keep up your good work.

Christine, I read elsewhere that you have a 250 watt cfl. That will give you a lot of light. If you can, put it on a timer and keep the tree under the light for about 14 hours a day. Your apartment temperature is quite high, so between that heat and the heat your cfl puts out you do not need to use the heatpad. With all that heat your potting mix probably dries out quite fast too, thus your good roots. Fertilize with a tsp of Foliage Pro at most times that you water. Once a month flush pure water through the pot so that you don't get fertilizer build up that could hurt your nice roots. With the good light and fertilizer your plants will push new leaves and flowers and we hope fruit that begins to hang on and mature. It is still a young tree though so you will need to have some patience. Good luck with your tree.

Christine, Cory said it well..What do you think? Do you believe everything she said? Do you plan on doing what she suggested..? She gave you very encouraging advice and I am with her..I a sorry it took so long to get the help you needed..Seems to me you have done well, now we have to see if the leaves come back nice and strong, flat turgid and green..

Christine, I'm kind of out of the loop on these threads, but I just saw you asked for help by tacking on a question to a thread from 2005-2006...that is probably why nobody responded quickly. Many don't usually pay attention to threads that are so old. I would advice with any questions you have in the future to do what you did today: start a new thread. Often times, if I don't know the answer, I'll at least try to post something to bump it up. And for the record, when I joined this board less than a year ago, I never felt shunned for not being part of the group. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and we try to be that way for anyone new.

Christine, Cory, Mike, Laura and John are very nice folks willing to give you all the help you need. Don't hesitate to ask any of us if you have questions.

Just curious, but what kind of soil medium would you need to use to get wrinkly leaves? I'm worried now that I used the wrong medium...

James, most of us here use the 5-1-1 (my favorite) or gritty mix. I'm not sure what would cause the leaves to curl.

    Christine, where are you?
