I don't think so...I've had it for 2 years and it hasn't in that time...the guy who gave it to my friend apparently didn't know or say what it was, just that it is 'special'. I don't know that it's special, but when it was offered to me, well yeah, you know...never turn down a plant...

From the description, guess it's 'special' to the possums in NZ, because it's their favorite plant/food, lol!

hehehehehe..think I did see mention when I looked quickly, briefly for a description, that its flowers are fragrant (always a plus with me) and that the berries (if I would get any with only one tree) are liked by birds, dunno if we even have possums here, never seen any, need to check. We do have fox, raccoons, deer, elk, bear, cougars, etc....since it seems to be a bit frost tender, I think it is destined to stay a tub plant...have not checked yet to see if it's deer resistant, either

Yes, whauwhaupaku is listed as a common name. If you have trouble pronouncing the Maori common name, you can also use Five Finger. But I didn't think that one was nearly as much fun to include in my post. ;)

I love possums. If you have a possum,you have no need for a garbage disposal. The eat anything,can crack even largest bones short of Dinosaur sized. Yet- they are peaceful and the cats can make them back off. I never saw a possum make an aggressive move to them or to me.

The poor guys are victims to roadkill psychos of all incomes and colors. I give up on mankind having any kindness left to wild animals.

Too true, Stan. I love possums also and I'm afraid there are not many of us who do. One of my favorite mental images is one from years ago when I was growing large stands of corn when we lived in Fallbrook...and I was down in the back of the property with a hose and there was a big full moon coming up...and here comes this possum, trudging across the field. All was right with my world at that momment....
