I love my Vent-a-Hood and to be honest I have never heard of good hood fans breaking down . You will need one with the proper CFM for the range and also make-up air so function is by far the most important part

Could you please let us know , what type of range hood you would like to install (wall mount , island mount , under cabinet or built in) , also what is the diameter of your ducting and what is your ceiling height.

Many people underestimate the fact that the size and the shape of the body are crucial for the suction of the range hood. It is never only about the size of the duct . For better performance ,the pyramid type range hoods are always preferred as the suction will be even throughout the entire length of the range hood.

I totally agree with Patricia Colwell Consulting that a good range hood should not brake. There is a lot of range hoods on the market , which are overloaded with electronics, and we all know that the electronics can brake. If you want your range hood to be reliable you need to purchase something with mechanical rotary switches.
