help with choosing pendants for new kitchen

Hi there...

We completely renovated our main floor and I am having a hard time with the pendant lights for the island... we have two holes done so need two pendants..

Our ceilings are only 8 feet so a lot of the ones I have tried seem to big for the space...

Do you have recommendations on what would work?

I see you have clean lines and colors. I suggest matching the light over your table. Keep it simple - white shade, stainless or brushed nickel metals. If you don't use frosted shade, you'll get a glare. You have plenty of canned lights so you want task lighting for your island - directed down; not out. I warn against adding a color shade because that will illuminate that color (of the shade) in your kitchen - it will be glaring look at me! Maybe something like this:

I think this putty color would coordinate well with your paint color in the kitchen but other colors are available...

How long and wide is your island and where are the light boxes in relation to the island...how far in from the ends and whether they are in the center of the island depth.

our island is 7.5 feet in length and width about 4 feet. the two pendants are in the middle of the island and are about 2 feet apart. The light boxes are towards the outer edge of the island (away from the sink). our kitchen opens up into our family room

It sounds like your lights will be too close for a 90" island. I suggest you place them 45" apart from ctr of electrical box to ctr of electrical box leaving about 22" to each end.

Consider these pendants with the frosted glass cylinder. It provides good light and it complements your dining table light but with a vertical orientation.
