Oven under a window?

Our kitchen plan for our 900sf house has a stove with a window behind to make the plan balanced and bring in more light. Our builder suggests putting the window up 12" off of the counter for fire hazard reasons. Has anyone put a window behind an electric slide in oven before? We just found out that we have to also use a downdraft oven since there is no hood and that costs $1,800 more than a regular stove. Suggestions?

You need a better design. Put the sink on the island and the range between the two windows. You don't have nearly enough storage in that kitchen as it is. Certainly not enough to sacrifice it to form over function with a table instead of an island with cabinets.

Is that all the cabinets? No other walls? Is that table-thing actually an island?

You don't need a fan with an electric stove because there are no fumes like gas stoves give off. The fan would just be for cooking smells and is optional. The sink is too close to the side of the fridge. I would put 2windows next to the fridge and centre the sink below them. Then you could move the stove down a bit and put a fan hood above it.

We ended up redesigning the kitchen into an L shape like below. The seating in the kitchen will be tight, but our family doesn't like our only seating to be at a island as we wanted a place to play games as well. Thanks so much for all of our suggestions!

It's seems to be lacking some upper cabinet storage...do you have a pantry for dry goods storage? Can you go to ceiling with the cabinets? Can you fit any into the left wall instead of shelves?

Why not put the fridge against the left wall, and build out those cabinets to fall wall? Put the range in the middle with a downdraft and put the sink in the middle of the far wall with a large window and no upper cabinetry?

Are you remodeling for yourself intending to live there 10 years or planning to sell?

For selling, many people overspend on a basement renovation.

Personally, I would DIY LVP in the remainder of basement. Tile on basement floor sounds cold in winter.
