We have ceramic on the bathroom floor and its fine. Is it to do with the thickness of that particular tile? Floor tiles will be thicker than wall tiles. Having said that our tile on the floor is a wall tile and the tiler just made sure the tile was on a really good base and advised us to buy a couple of spare boxes just in case we had any cracks at any stage.

Thanls ShellyUK. I was going to use a light gray porcelain for the floor, and the wall mounted vanity is a dark espresso color...I got worried that the gray floor might make everything look too dark. The vanity is 63". You can see all three materials below.

I think the three look good together. How big is the bathroom. If you have the same tile on the floor and the wall in a large bathroom it might look a bit much.

I like it on the floor don't really see the problem with it. I'm doing it currently in a bathroom for a client.

I think your colors work well together and I don't see a problem with it on the floor.

I"ve been told, if you can put on the wall, you can put it on the floor. The only thing is certain tiles are especially "glossy" and can be very slippery when wet, can be a little dangerous for bathrooms.

I agree with slokar2 about the safety issue. We also made sure the (porcelain) tiles for all our bathrooms are not too smooth, but have some texture, so they are not very slippery when wet. Jdmaher, we picked porcelain for all our bathroom tiles -- the flooring, the shower walls, and the non-shower walls. Please post After photos of your new bathroom! :)

We have a porcelain marble effect tile on wall and floor. Floor tile does have a slightly less polished texture to make it less slippery.

I would think the box would specify whether it is wall tile or floor tile or could be used for both. My parents used a marble look ceramic tile in their shower that was wall only. Or if you go to the website it should tell you.

Any floor tile can be used on a wall, not all wall tile can be used on the floor. Tiles are rated by the coefficient of friction (skid resistance).
.60 meets or exceeds safety standards, anything below .50 is questionable.
