I suppose you could kill them with 2-4D or a glyphosate such as Round up but I would never advocate either method.

I find the Physalis spp. quite shallow rooted and easily pulled. I try to get to them (and every other reseeding nightmare) before the seeds mature. Easier said than done to be sure.
