Is this chandelier too high and what fixture over table?
Comments (196)Here's an update: Camilla Franklin of Blissett Textile is working on the D. O. G. Farm Toile design. My contractor doesn't get back to me until the 19th of August to paint the entire interior, reside the exterior, and tear out the kitchen tile so the floor person can come in. Patrick Dunne has convinced me to use only one of the couches in the living room and move the other into my library/sitting room, both to be recovered in a caramelish, light tobacco colored leather. The television is going inside a handsome armoire quatre portes. The fireplace surround and hearth will be slate with a different firebox. A suitable old mantel has not yet been located. The brass chandelier is going in my bedroom; living room chandeliers will be black iron as I believe LB Interiors and several other people also suggested early on. The big pastoral picture stays over the mantel; the large mirror from my bedroom--there's a photo of it somewhere in this thread--goes on the wall behind the dinner table. The captain's chairs are being retired to the box room as extra seating. The dining room chairs will be os de mouton. Garden seat for master bath: Maison Pompeii suggested one. Several are coming up soon at New Orleans auction. I have the new living room rug down temporarily and have attached several photos....See MoreI'm NOT color blind.... I'm color STUPID :(
Comments (49)lol Carolyn! Yep. AFTER I get em I'm gonna say "what do I do with the rest of the place?" lol Seriously. :) We bought & gutted this house before my hubby became (permanently) disabled. He was hale, hearty and able to do anything. We had 2 incomes and many choices. Today, things are different. I'm losing scads of money every month I have this gutted house. So, we're desperately trying to finish it to the point where we can move into it and rent or sell the home we currently live in. So, I no longer have a plethora of choices for interior finishing due to $$$. Being a bargain hunter, I found out about the Kraftmaid Mfg. outlet in Warren, Ohio (we're in Michigan). They hold a sale open to public every other Saturday for a few hours. We went over there to buy our bathroom vanities and got vanities that retail for $1500+ for $200 each. Solid plywood, soft close drawers, etc. Beautiful construction. And their kitchen cabinets? omg. If you can be flexible in finish & style - tremendous deals to be had. We saw entire kitchens that would retail for $15,000 + for $1800 - $3,000. They seem to have anywhere from 5 "complete sets" to choose from up to as many as 20+. Plus they have RACKS of individual cabinets to piece a set from scratch if desired. When we were there, Only one of the sets was lower end... 28 cabinets total for $500.00. I'm VERY flexible. I need cabinets and will take ANYTHING but golden oak with arched doors! :) See, there IS hope for me. Or so the voices tell me. Every base cabinet is $125. Every wall cabinet is $95. In any finish. All top of the line interior options included (pop up kitchen mixer stands, etc). I priced a 30" 3-drawer base cabinet at Lowe's that I saw in the outlet ... new was $975 in same finish. There, $125 total. So, we're off to have an adventure. Hope to pick up vanity tops while we're there (they were $75 - 125 for 60" including undermount sinks). We have to get a double oven cabinet from there where they sell for $75.00 instead of $900+ special order. And praying we'll find a set we can work with, and paint if need be (keeping the pieces we can use & ordering at Lowes to complete set if we can't find it in the outlet). Any cabinets that won't fit out kitchen we'll use in basement for storage or sell on Craigslist or something! :) Go ahead and tell me .... do I sound TOTALLY bonkers? or only a little? :)...See MoreHow To Stage this...
Comments (5)Thank you for all the input! I didn't want to electrify it. I was trying to think of something different to do with it. I will post a pic of the dining room for you soon. I am waiting on the table to be completed. It is being painted right now. Anu Verma - I will find out the paint color soon....See MoreNeed help redesigning my daughters nursery
Comments (38)My daughter did a woodland theme for my grandson's room years ago. I think he was 4 years old. We made a cabin out of landscaping timbers that fit a crib mattress. (we did a LOT of research to insure they didn't have any chemicals or toxicity). A crib mattress is large enough for a child for quite a few years, and because it didn't look like a "baby bed" he was perfectly fine with it. There was a window and a door opening in the cabin for him to go in and out and for extra light. Under the crib mattress was toy storage and a great hiding place for playtime. The roof was shingled with old wood shakes taken off an apartment building nearby when they re-roofed the place. The roof was hinged, so provided extra storage in the "attic". She even put a real bird nest on top of the cabin. My son wired a red camping lantern so it was electrified instead of oil burning and hung that by the cabin door. We hung burlap over the closet and an X made of cedar fence boards across the top and painted "dangerous mine; do not enter" on the fence boards which we hung high on the opening of the closet. We hung an interesting tree limb for a curtain rod over his window and made a curtain out of green and black plaid flannel (lumberjack-ish fabric) to hang from the limb. She's an artist and painted woods, mountains, a lake, etc as a mural on all 4 walls. Oh, and she added a kid-size picnic table with built-in benches for his desk/work area. He LOVED it...and when they sold the house, the new owners put in the contract that they wanted them to leave the room intact! I know these ideas are boy-ish, but maybe they'll spark some ideas that will work with your daughter's room. The really DUMB thing is that we never took photos of it or I would share them....See MoreJennifer
