i really like the braided one from West Elm. Matelasse tends to be heavier.

Just to share-I read some very bad reviews on West Elm bedding..bedding in particular. They say it doesn't hold, etc.

Which doesn't mean of course there will never be nice exceptions.

I recently saw some of the duvet covers at PB....they seemed nice. I esp. loved one, but can't tell if it's one that you posted or not. I will say I have some of their sheets & they have been great. I got a couple of K size pillow cases at West Elm & the fabric was not very nice & they were made off grain....ended up in our Goodwill box. I have a quilt from there in our guest room, and it's ok....not particularly soft, however.

I always kept my duvet folded at the foot of the bed and still had some sort of quilt or matelesse spread. It looked neater and when the duvet was needed and pulled up, it wasn't too heavy. A duvet shoul be very light in actual weight, even if filled with a lot of down.

Re: aprilneverends comment re: WestElm bedding. I have the WestElm pin tuck duvet cover (not one you linked to, but still). The first time I washed it, three of the buttons broke, literally had pieces broken off. And one came completely off. Very poor quality buttons and attachment of said buttons. I've never washed something and had the buttons break like this. I went and bought all new buttons, replacing every button, even the ones that were intact, sewed them on, and problem solved. The duvet cover itself has held up well for the last year +, and I love the color, and have had no other problems at all with it. But the initial breakdown does not inspire me to purchase further items from them.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Good to know about West Elm bedding. I've been lusting after some of their silk quilts, and at their priced I'd be very disappointed if the quality wasn't there.

I went in a bit of a different direction. I found a chenille duvet cover at Linensource. It looks similar to the my favorite choice from
Pottery Barn, but at a better price. I even got the chenille bed skirt, which might be overkill, but oh well!

Our Duvet(s) are from PB and I love them so much! Heavier cotton that's cool to the touch and they've held up really well, no color fading or wear, but they don't have the ties.

Ditto on the west elm bedding issues. After the first wash, mine looked like it was worn out and had piling. Same for sofa pillow covers, buttons broke and it looked really worn out after a gentle wash cycle as per the directions.

I bought two of the same flannel duvets , one white and one natural , from LL Bean and I too like a vintage old fashioned look. One is on a 4 poster mahogany pineapple bed with a matelasse white coverlet and the other a 4 poster maple bed with light floral patchwork quilt spread . They are both folded at the bottom half of the bed, look great and are excellent quality , wash great and are a thick flannel fabric. We love their cozy soft warm luxurious feel.

The chenille duvet cover, bed skirt and shams arrived from Linen Source. I'm happy with the quality, considering the price vs. PB etc.. It's the vintage cozy look I want for winter.

But because I have a bed linen obsession, I'm really wanting this seersucker duvet cover, maybe for spring?

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I'm really enjoying how soft and cozy it is on these cold mornings and nights. I also love how it is easy to make the bed look neat and finished, even straight from the dryer. My only complaint would be it doesn't have corner ties, so I've used safety pins instead.

Thank you for the compliments on the blanket, it's my favorite shade of green. I bought it on vacation in Ireland. I wish I had the skills to knit it!
