Need help with fireplace tiles

We are planning to spruce up our fireplace which is in the living room. We do not have a separate family room. I am unable to decide if we should do ledger panel tiles or plain porcelain tiles. Are ledger panel tiles too rustic for the living room? Any thoughts?
