There is nothing wrong with faux wood WHITE shutters, It can't be discerned they aren't wood,, and a smooth finish with no grain is best. They are more stable than real wood, and when measured and installed properly, they look great. I'd ask the brand before committing. Hunter Douglas does quite a nice job at a very fair price, with many options for rail, tilt closure ( stick in front or no control stick ) etc. Find a dealer near you.

Poster above despises shutters, but if you would like just as much versatility AND the option for a totally clear view, I'd go with HD Silhouette Shades.. All the versatility in heat and light control, with the bonus of nothing in your view when you don't want it obscured at all. And everything in between from total privacy to just a softening of the light and view.. As with shutters, best on inside mount.
