countertop induction hob

I'm on the fence about an induction range, so thought I'd try a countertop induction hob to see if I like it. Has anyone used one? If so, what kind? I want to find one that can gently cook eggs as well as sear a steak, and that is not noisy. Please share your experiences!

The 1800 watt single hob unit that I bought from Costco convinced me that I should buy induction for my kitchen. I think the brand is Eurodib, and it is great,. I didn't sear any steaks (I use the BBQ for that) but I did lots of eggs, cooked pasta, used my pressure cooker, etc. It is not as powerful as the range and it is also not as quiet, but it will give you a feel for what induction is like to use.

I just bought something cheap from Amazon. It wasn't as nice as our amazing Miele cooktop but convinced me that induction was awesome. I don't think it matters so much which one you get.

Not all are good. Be sure to get a well reviewed one, the one that I tried was worthless....

We are using a portable Duxtop 1800 during our reno. It's only been day three but so far have used it to make pasta, tea and tacos. It works great except fan can be loud initially. At some point I stopped noticing it as I was cooking tacos last night as the cooking sounds took over.

The countertop models are 120v vs 220v for ranges and full hobs. So the amount of power will be less for steak searing. You still get a good feel, just not the full capabilities.

For months my kitchen cooking was done with an induction hob, a toaster oven, and a Coleman stove - very high end, gourmet meals!

I got an Aroma Housewares AID-509 Induction Cooktop from Amazon for around $50 to try it out. It didn't do low end simmer as well as I could wish, but everything else was serviceable and worth my $50. I now have a Kenmore Elite induction range, which is super, but I keep the hob in the cupboard just in case I need an extra burner.

A couple of years ago, after deciding to try induction, I bought the Duxtop single burner from Amazon. I liked it while I had it--for about a week--especially for heating water. Younger daughter really liked it, so it went home with her, and she is still using it every day as her only means of cooking inside.

I could hear the whine, which didn't bother me, but my elder daughter hated the sound, and she's the one who usually heats water for tea and boils eggs.
