I do not believe that a painting should dominate or dictate the wall color or the furnishings. What color is the wall now? Hard to see on my computer.

It is kind of a mauve colour, which is what the previous owners had. I've tried different samples on the wall to no success but I love the colours on the painting and want it to stick out, so I thought it would be finally easier to pick a wall colour that way, other wise I'm completely lost. I started painting this wall 2 years ago....

Rani, did you do that painting? Wow! :) If you sometimes have overcast weather there, you can take some photos on an overcast day, when the diffused natural light can fill up your space. It may be easier to show people and ask for color choices with such a photo :)

Ed, no heck I didn't do that painting, I don't have that much talent, but the artist that did do that painting is painting me one using the same kind of colors so I thought I'd get my wall ready. An overcast day sounds like a good idea though. I was thinking of something in the gray color spectrum at least that's what the artist recommended.

This may look nice. If the second painting in the same pallet you'll be fine.
