Rooting Maple Cutting In The Refrigerator

Hey, has anybody heard of a method of rooting cuttings in the refrigerator?
Halloween night I took two cutting from a Sugar Maple that is in my Grandmother's yard. I did the usual stuff you'd do to prepair a cutting by removing all the leaves, wounding the bottom end and dipped in some Take Root rooting powder. But I wrapped then in a damp paper towerl and stuck them in a ziplock bag and stuck them in a drawer in my refrigerator. I got the idea from how they would store scion wood in the fridge before grafting.
I was thinking that maybe the ends will callus before forming roots and the cold will give them a simi-dormancy. I also did the same with a birch cutting.
Has anyone heard of a method like this and will it work with Maples or even Birches?
