That is a nice-looking one you have, Frank. Those are one of my favorite echevarias, but I don't have many in the my garden currently.

Incidentally, for a non-monocarpic plant like this, what can we expect to happen with the flower stalks? Will those wither and perhaps be suitable to prune eventually?

Depends how on top of garden maintenance I am at the time. ;) Ideally, I like to dead head as the flowers are spent--sometimes it can encourage additional flower formation on the stalk. When a stalk is done with flowering, I just remove the entire stalk to tidy up. Sometimes the plant will then throw up more stalks, but I don't know it that was directly related to the old stalk removal. I've accidentally dislodged plants by smacking the old stalks with a shovel or rake, so I tend to remove spent ones for that reason also.

Some species don't have showy flowers, and people have chosen to just remove the stalks early on, rather than let the plant bloom at all. I lean towards liking the stalk form, even if the bloom is not a showy one. But when finished, I'm ready to clean the plant up. I think with these plants, it is more a personal preference decision as to when to prune, rather than a right or wrong way.

The hummingbirds are enjoying these blooms in my garden now. I will leave and prune after the flowers are spent.

They dry up and given enough time a gentle tug will be able to remove them. Some Echeverias are quite exhausted by the blooming process and can get quite stressed. But, if the location and care is to their liking, they recover.

I would prune them off. I am reminded at what useless the bloom stalks are for some by my Crassula capitella.. deep red when out of bloom...faded to pale orange and I do think it weakened the plant.

Next year I just cut them off. I'm sure they are used to herbivores in habitat grazing on them sooner or later. So,not unnatural.

Of course,if its a good looking flowering...prune after done. But still prune.

I like the flowers and leave the stalk until the flowers are finished, and then I trim it.

I retract! What was I thinking? About my Crassula!...No,you don't need to prune off the Echeveria's bloom. A big part of their beauty is that bloom in late summer. I have a couple of types. Afterglow and E. subrigida.

Sorry for my bad advice for that plant. Enjoy and when they fade, clip off.
