I don't think you have to use a solid - plain navy or grey might be boring. Even the jute with a navy border is playing it safe. You can mix patterns and colors, but it's nice when there is one common thread (style, or color, over dyed, etc). Look at complimenting your sitting room first and foremost - connecting rooms don't have to match that closely - see last picture. If you can, bring home a few and see how they work with furniture and rug.
