colors, for what it's worth:

i like mixing paint together until i reach the desired color, there is nothing wrong with that. If you decide you absolutely hate it, paint the walls swiss coffee and decorate / add accessories that are pink. If your daughter likes it and you want to make her happy , that is what's important right?

I actually like it, but maybe it's the light on my monitor. How old is your daughter? Do you have bedding you are matching?

yeah, the picture looks ok and it didn't look too bad at 7pm dusk sun. But it didn't cover well and needs a second coat, and in the bright sun it was a little shocking/electrifying! Also, I want to bring in her rug (green!) tomorrow and get an idea of how good or bad that will look.

I think one shade darker would be a little more pleasing. I guess I should just go with the Tara and she'll probably not even know the difference once it's all done. I knew pink in general is a color she'd likely grow out of soon anyway. She's 9.

The room is so small, I got one coat on in a quart (but was really stretching thin to finish). So I figured I'd be changing the top color in another 2 years or so.

(it's Navajo White on the bottom and I''ll do Oxford White on the trim once walls are done.)

The wall color will look different once you put in the furniture, rug, bedding, curtains, etc. My opinion is to let her have the color she chose, since it's her room and she loves it. Just as you say she wouldn't notice a change of one shade...well, maybe you "shouldn't notice" that she wants the one shade she likes.

I agree with your other helpers: not getting the color perfect for a kid's room is not the end of the world: toning it down with furniture, accessories, window treatments will go a long way. You could make one wall magnetic so she can use it as an art wall and rotate all her favorite projects...and hide the pink a little more. Maybe she needs shelving for plush animals, books, etc. And maybe she's dreaming of a canopy over her bed- World Market has them in a gauzy white...perfect. A photo wall all framed in white, is another option...you get the point: you canmake the pink go away.

thanks all. It is incredibly bright in the sun, so I'll look at it again today before deciding for second coat. It may be looking particularly bad because a bit of the blue is showing thru. I"m wondering about mixing a quart of the pink she likes with a quart of the shade darker just to knock the brightness down a tad?

I was going to get a white shelf (Ikea) for high up on the length of that same wall to hold stuffed animals, I ordered white curtains, and a new white bed is coming.

Julie, good luck. Please post photos of your progress. My painter recently told me, worst case, if I don't like the color, they can re-paint it much more easily than re-doing the tiles, the flooring, the cabinets, the counter tops, etc. :)

Julie, remember that the colour looks much more overwhelming if there is no furniture in the room. By the time you get the furniture in the room and pull it together with bed linens etc it will be much more pleasing

Also bear in mind as she grows that accents can change to make it more sophisticated:
1. teal, turquoise look stunning
2. grey is sophisticated
3. I knew an Ambassador who had his living room painted pink and then used deep red accents - it was stunning
