What does "dual fuel" mean?

The concept that comes immediately to mind is the flexibility to burn propane or natural gas. This is because we used to live in a rural area that did not have natural gas lines, so buying a range/oven meant making sure it could be converted to use propane.
We had a propane range/oven but after frequent problems of the oven not staying lit, and then one time erupting in a fireball spewing out when opening the oven door, we immediately made the dealer take it back. We got an electric one to replace it. But the stove cooktop of an electric is poor performance compared to the gas/propane. After several years of dis-satisfaction with the electric top, we want to replace the range-oven combo but refuse to have a gas oven because of the traumatic past experience. Are there units that are made with an electric oven but have a gas cooktop range? Is the electric/gas combo what people mean by "dual fuel"? or does "dual fuel" mean natural gas - propane?
