Truly, any stain will just look so similar that you shouldn't bother. Looks fine as is.

A new backsplash might make the biggest difference.

Hi Robin, I do and don't like the look of your cabinetry.! If you want to stain your cabinets a different color, you need to sand down to bare wood. I really like your island as it matches your range hood. Now if you could put that wood on those cabinets it would look great!

I like your kitchen. I'm a bit confused about the island countertop. Are there two? Also it feels a bit dark and the lighting seems to have a yellow cast to it. You could try replacing the bulbs in your lights with white ones or replacing the lights completely since it looks like they have little yellow shades on them. I like the idea of replacing the granite with something lighter. A honed finish would look great with your style, just make sure the stone isn't gray. I would use a white with some very light cream movement in it. Maybe like this gold calcutta quartz.

Saw these cabinets recently. I think something similar would look great in your kitchen with your island.

Would you consider removing a few more cupboard doors and then wallpapering the back of the cabinets to add just a bit of color/design that would be seen behind the contents? Then I would leave the wood as is and see what it all looks like to you then?
