Pruning my fiddle leaf

Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to help guide me. My fiddle leaf is getting top heavy and is in desperate need of some pruning. I have no idea where to cut to avoid the branch from splitting.

Also, is there a way to thicken or strengthen the trunk? I have two bamboo sticks supporting the trunk right now.

Lastly, should I hold off until the spring (live in NJ) to prune the fiddle leaf to look more tree-like like the photo?

I would start over with a new plant to get one that looks like the photo.

Use stronger stakes than bamboo and make sure the trunk is fully supported because it's got many leaves making it heavy.

Prune leaves in a way that won't leave a gap but will thin out the amount of leaves. You can definitely remove leaves that are on the bottom 1.5' of the trunk. Also, remove leaves at the top of the plant and if you want a shorter plant you can top it off somewhat. I think you'll like this plant more once it's got support so it's fully upright.

That's also a small pot for that big of a plant. More soil around the roots will help the trunk stay upright.
