Bulbs Going Soft

last modified: 9 years ago

Hi, I'm a long time reader and first time poster who needs help with tiger lily bulbs.

The bulbs have been growing in a large barrel for the past five years and doing very well. I dug them up last week because I wanted to move them to a new location. The bulbs were very firm and looked healthy. After cleaning the dirt off, I stored them in a cardboard box lined with newspaper in my garage.

I checked on them today and they are starting to go soft and feel rather spongy. Some of the bulbs have a reddish tinge around the edges. What should I do to save them? They have huge sentimental value as I dug them up from my mother's garden after she passed away five years ago.

Thank you for any and all help!
