it looks like a changing table... i'd move on. how about a new cabinet that is a light grey in your fireplace?

im thinking a mirror on that wall might brighten up the space.

Probably pricey, buy it's definitely a diy thing to make it fit the space.

Or a galvanized cart and/or shelves for an industrial feel and to bring a slight bit of a reflective quality.

A simple book case with glass door to reflect the light and keep the dust away from your collection should do the trick!

Modern or rustic, depending if you want it to match your fireplace or your couch :)

What does the rest of the room look like? Making suggestions for a corner of the room without seeing what the rest of it looks like - including other wood furniture, other side of the fireplace, lighting etc. etc. makes it very difficult to offer a useful suggestion that will get you to a coordinated result. But I do agree - the change table needs to go - it's visually busy, as is the corner shelf above it. One nice piece, similar to the Toulouse reclaimed pine cabinet that acm posted above would be great, but we need to know what else you've got in that room. And I'm not sure where you'd put the record player (which appears to be an all-in-one unit) with an entirely enclosed cabinet, though it would certainly be nice to reduce the visual clutter. There are lots of alternatives, but let's see the rest of the room!

What looks so very dark about the corner is the brown wood. I understand you might not want to paint it all if goes throughout the house.

Here's what to try:

Remove everything in that corner. No more table or shelves. They're not adding anything except making that corner look crowded and over-decorated.

Replace with a live plant. A fig or a palm would give your room a whole new look.

I love that wood paneling, hang on to it! What about adding some floating shelves that match the mantle, but thinner? Similar to these or these, if they match. To me, it's the mismatched shelving and busy changing table that is making this corner look cluttered, rather than the items stored there. Floating shelves would remove that distraction.

You could then add a pendant light to hang in front of the shelves, or add a light on one of the shelves to brighten it up.

I suggest a sturdy vintage record cabinet. Add a wall sconce light that illuminates the front of the cabinet so you can see the titles on the albums. If you can find one on tallish legs that brings the albums closer to eye level without being top heavy, that'd help you avoid crouching down to select albums. Some people leave a flashlight on their bookcases in dark corners. You may have to bolt the cabinet to the wall for stability.

What you've done is much better! If you add new furniture, I wouldn't go with any more dark wood. Something painted white would be better.

Looks much better, I love your end table lamps, can you tell me where you got them or who made them?

I love the vintage tip out record cabinets. No LPs here or I'd have one. They aren't usually very large, only the size of an end table, would that be large enough? The record player fits on top.

I've come across a few at thrift stores, no idea how common they are. They are nifty at storage but the ones I've seen weren't especially well made things by major furniture manufacturers so I would have felt free to paint, put on new legs and such. Hope you wouldn't have to resort to something as expensive as this cutie.Like this.

Your room looks so cozy! Now that i've seen it in its entirety I would recommend to leave that corner empty, it would feel cramped otherwise.

And I would center that picture :)

I would add open distressed wood/metal shelving for your records. Try moving your couch down a bit so it is centered under the window and and move the lamp closer, so it book ends the couch and still brightens the corner.

@ Planika Fires - with all due respect, there is a beautiful field stone fireplace in the centre of a wall that works perfectly in the space - defines the space really. Why on earth would anyone want to replace it with a modern white fireplace in the corner?!

Apologies Rebecca, I have not seen a full picture with fireplace on therefore suggested something to lighten the dark corner up . You are absolutely right stone fireplace will definite look better.

I think a great option would be to add some bright colored art or some small plants if you're not looking to swap the furniture. If you're looking for new furniture a lighter driftwood grey type of color would work very well.
