What I immediately noticed was the plethora of "wall warts" in your sink area. When contemplating a new backsplash one of the best things you can do is have all those outlets / switches relocated.

The cabinet style you like is what you have, just white. So the answer is right in front of you: paint them!

The pictures of the white kitchens are just for reference what type of kitchen I like. We can't replace counters or cabinets but we could paint. I agree with everyone's comments on the light switches.

@acm the walls are SW dovetail gray but it's hard to see in the pictures. Can you the stone from the backsplash you posted? I like the gray/white combo. I do like the idea of clear glass for light fixtures.

@Jananina Viggiano I have heard mixed reviews about painting or spraying newer cabinets so please share any tips if you have them.

The kitchen is gorgeous. The shaker style was brilliant and will never go out of style. I wouldn't change those. The countertops are timeless too and granite will last your lifetime. Backsplash could use freshening up, think subway or a random block for a classic look. Pictures attached. Happy remodeling!

The best suggestion I can give you for painting is taking a door or drawer to a paint store. You will need to sand and prime and use an enamel paint for good results, probably wet sanding between coats and doing like 3 coats.

It's labor intensive, so I'd do one section at a time so your kitchen is still usable.

"wall warts"...I never heard that before...add some crown around the perimeter of the room TOO!!!

If you're considering a white kitchen, cabinet refacing is a great solutions! Costs less then replacing perfectly good cabinets. I've attached picture of latest refacing project. The color would suit your existing kitchen beautifully!

Wow, that's a lot of switch plates! Have an electrician come and move as many as possible to a strip under the cabinets. Since you're replacing the backsplash, it shouldn't be a big deal. If any have to remain on the wall have the switch and cover changed to blend in with what ever your new backsplash is. I like the new backsplash recommendations above. I strongly suggest changing the wall color, it does not look good with your beautiful cabinets. Maybe try painting just the base of the island. As suggested, new light fixtures would make a big difference too.

We are going to hold off painting the cabinets and instead move forward the other suggestions starting with the backsplash, then lighiing and painting.

Any other suggestions for a stone or subway tile that varies in shading? I like the gray or white coloring.

Lastly I never noticed the blue undertones in the paint which are causing the orange. Any suggestions on a warmer gray?

Maybe this as a warm gray? It leans toward a beige or tan, and will look more so if you end up painting your cabinets white (which could look very nice).

There's also this which is a little more yellow/green, or this which is more pink.

Here is another backsplash idea. When doing a back splash, choose a color hue that is 'minimal' in the counter top. If it's in there, it will come out when the countertop is installed. With Venecian, try an 'off- white' base with beige veining. See pic. The color is Almond from the Sandy Ridge Collection, made by Dal Tile.

The kitchen color was originally practical beige similar to the soft sand. It looked peach in the sunlight and brought out the orange in the cabinets. We thought the darker color would help some but think we chose the wrong color.

Try BM Revere Pewter.

I also noticed all the plugs and outlets and switches.

Here is a fantastic way to hide all those. Move them up and to the bottom of the cabinets. See how clean the backsplash area can look without all those ugly things.

You're definitely on the right track with your idea book pictures for the backsplash. Either would be a big improvement but I like the top one best.
