Hi Tina, the raised butcher block (just a bar, in fact) is also made by MatPel. The shelves are a joint effort between myself (design to fit all the elements), us+family (cleanup of reclaimed wood from old roof structure and various scraps from the renovation) and the contractor (installation). The idea to use threaded rods for suspension was given by the contractor, with whom we worked very closely. These are 3/8" rough rough-steel rods that come in long sections, available at hardware stores.

Hi, what are the cabinet door inserts made of?

They are held in place with small wood trims made from the same recycled wood as the rest of the cabinets.
