I've had pretty good luck with Google Translate on both my Android phone and iPad. If it works on a phone it should work on a tablet. And it's free. :)

Well, I found this http://www.newocr.com/ and it will do it if the copy is nice and crisp. Some of the other things I uploaded didn't work at all. I think if the ocr does a good job, the translator program has something to work with but poor ocr equals impossible translations.

I used Google Translate on my phone to translate text carved in a cathedral wall in Germany last year. It was very cool. You do need to be online for it to translate from text via the phone or tablet's camera.

That's what he was doing with his phone. Since I would be translating here at home I think the google translate web site will have to do. I can try the ocr and then have it translate, too. I've not been real pleased with what it can do but the quality of the census I was trying to translate was really bad. I was thinking the new Barnes and Noble $49 tablet would be in my price range but then again, I'd be here and could use the programs on my computer for free. A few more steps but I'm retired, not punching a time clock. It I spend all day doing it, so be it.

Make sure that the B&N tablet has access to the Google Play Store, otherwise it's possible that you may not be able to install the Google translate app.

I have the cheapest Kindle Fire tablet, and I must go through the Amazon app store to install apps. They don't have the same selection as a standard Android tablet.

It looks like it does. I've decided to just use my computer programs. Instantly saved $49!
