Happy Thanksgiving all

last modified: 9 years ago

Just wanted to wish you all a nice Thanksgiving or anything else you may believe in or do tomorrow.,,A time for reflection and a time to be thankful for all that we have including our loved ones, good friends and each other here at these forums...It's been great getting to know you all and for all the time we all take to help each other..

Please, if you have one of your 'favorite', it does not have to be one new or one that we have already seen trees to share here, your Thanksgiving 'favorite', I would love to see us do that! Or if you have some sort of 'citrus dish', that would be great too)

Hugs to all

Mike

Happy thanksgiving Mike! (And everyone else) I am thankful for the knowledgeable people in this forum. Hopefully you all have some good citrus dishes as well. (For inspiration) :D

Happy Thanksgiving to you too! And everyone here. Thanks for all the knowledge ya'll share here. I don't have a new tree pic to share, but here's a bowl of Calamondins (I have more..) that we're planning to turn into a calamondin pie for Thanksgiving.

Dave, I like the calamondin photo op...and it's funny your granite looks just like mine! I have a couple of photos in the citrus hard candy discussion.

Yes, everyone do have a great Thanksgiving and be sure and take photos if you make a citrus dish or drink.

FYI for your Thanksgiving drink options, my sister makes a great lemonade using ginger ale as a base. I think she adds one cup lemon juice and maybe a scant cup of sugar for each 1-liter bottle of ginger ale....no added water. It's tart and delish!

It doesn't have any citrus in it but I just finished making date-nut candy. After my hard candy experiment, I was happy the date-nut candy set up as it should.

I'm planning to make a Barefoot Contessa Lemon Cake so I should have photos of that coming along in a day or two.

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Just got off the phone with Mike, and he let me know this Thread was up!

I hope you all Feast to your belly's delight. I made my cranberry sauce this morning, and as always I added a couple Owari Satsumas, sliced up, rind and all. It should be delicious by tomorrow.

Here's my pic from tonight...made calamondin marmalade for the first time....I also added a few kumquats bc the calamondins were small. Most were from that sad little tree I rescued...they needed to come off even though some were still a bit green. Vladimir...that recipe is great!! The lump in the middle is a pack of the seeds I boiled it with to provide the pectin (that was JohnM's suggestion). I had to stop my husband bc he was spooning out large quantities from the pot to eat...I kicked him out of the kitchen ;-). Happy Thanksgiving!!

Yum! The marmalade looks good. Tell us what you think about the flavor when you sample it. I have made calamondin pies that were good but the jelly I tried was a little strong.

    John...

Here's the final product! It has a strong, but vibrant flavor...a bit like Seville orange marmalade, but better. Everyone liked it. I do wonder if it will be a tad bit less bitter with totally orange/ripe calamondins. I also added extra sugar as I went.
i have to say it thickened up perfectly. I will definitely make it again. I bought several cheeses for tonight - one has a few cranberries inside. I will put some marmalade over it with crackers...yum! Or you could bake a slice of Brie and put some over that...lots of possibilities ;-)

Laura, I am glad you like it. I like JohnM's pack of seeds idea. Its better than spooning out the seeds while its boiling. Wife, daughter and I find it to be a little bitter but not overly so and I do not add more sugar. My tree refuses to put out enough fruit at one time, so I will be freezing them until I get enough to make a batch.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I put the calamondin marmalade along with goat cheese and crackers...wow! The flavor is intense and wonderful! I also made lemon bars...the best ones I've made ever. I used two meyers and I have pics...wow...they were absolutely incredible. Oh...I realized I did not take pics of the bars...I will tomorrow. The first lemon was so massive it almost does not look like a Meyer, but it is.

That one lemon gave me 1/2 c of juice! It is from another meyer I have that is young...maybe 4. I only let it grow that one lemon and plucked off all the other little ones this spring. Well, I guess she put all her energy into that one!
