Do not do it, it is not a good look. Your kitchen is very busy as it is. Backsplash should be all one color and a plain solid. A warm off white would work.

If you want that to look like piece of furniture, you need to go all the way. Get wood look floor tile that matches your wood cabinets and do area backsplash like that. Paint remaining areas white. Minimize the number of colors that will improve your overall look.

Did you look at the picture Flo? The flooring looks a lot like wood tile ...

It's very busy, stay away from green tile and terra cotta grout, that would not be a good look. You have a harsh contrast with the cabinets, I'd stay simple on the backsplash as well.

Yes, I see the flooring, if I was doing this space from start I would do differently, but since the OP said they wanted this area to resemble a piece of furniture I was going for that. But, perhaps just doing one simple backsplash would be the easier choice. Too much going on for sure. If you could find a tile that emulated your wood I think it would look more like a china cabinet type piece than doing the "backsplash" another texture and color. So, you have options, get some samples to check out and I think you will be able to make it work. Just keep it simple.

What about the same tile like on the floor? It seems it will be good - like continuation of one line...

If it were me, that's what I would do. Cabinet look nice but this space is just too small to pull it off well. emmarene showed you a good example of how this could look and I think it looks great with the cabinets painted same as your other white.

Thanks all. Sadly, I think this is what I have to do. I have three different 'woods' and it's just not working. I thought about stripping the butcher block and trying a reddish stain but that's a lot of work for no guarantee of success. When I stand at the stove, I love the look of those wood cabinets and the granite. But it doesn't go with the rest. Fortunately, these are Ikea cabinets and I can just swap out the doors.

It's not sad, it is a good solution and you will be quite happy with the end result, even though it was exactly what you started out thinking about. This happens all the time. Hard to visualize everything, so just be happy you can make some changes relatively easily. Post pics when you are finished! Good luck!

How about the same granite as a backsplash it would tie the uppers and lowers together.

Go with what makes YOU happy as things always look different in person than in pics.
