Sorry for the late reply, Remember any occupied basement must have full fire egress and meet insulation standards by todays code. Low ceilings and duckwork can interfere with required building heights and if its to be a second kitchen in the house there are zoning issues that will need to be addressed as in the case of a potential two family of in-law suite. All of those issues need to be addressed before proceeding with the design layout. Hope that helps.
