@ kwhite, our project took about 4-5 months to complete. A solid 4 with taking out a fireplace, raising the pitch, etc and all those fun details.

Kristy, we bumped our interior wall 4 ft and took out the old 50's laundry space and that added 10 ft to the space in length which is now a small office/desk space for me or the kids to do their homework and I can see what they're doing ;-) I believe the original space was 9ft of flooring between the two sides of counters. Hope that helps

Was thinking about putting shaker cabinets in my 1953 home but I might have to go with slab doors. Comments? Color ideas?

well, I'm not a designer but my first line of thought would be to ask yourself if you want to preserve the 50's look or not and what style the rest of your house reflects. light and bright (but white is high maintenance) or dark.

Holy Moly! Very striking change, gorgeous. I love the ceiling and skylights, otherwise the dark materials would have been too much. Love the look, but would have to decide between the black floor and my light grey cat! Cat wins (of course). Enjoy your beautiful space!
