We could use a break in the bay area..and one is coming up. So I guess so far its been great. No flooding..I have only watered this month, twice (when Nov was still warm here)..for potted plants and the newly planted Guavas- planted out in September. The last ten days,no watering at all.

The rain was nice! All Saturday afternoon and intermittent throughout Sunday. We received about an inch altogether, very welcome!

My Bay Area backyard is loving it! The ground has been moist since late October and I haven't had to water once. Steady drizzles are the best, since water seeps into the ground instead of running off (and flooding our garage)

I love rain, but right now my house is being painted and my pool fixed so I don't want anything to stop the workers :-(

I could not believe the difference a new coat of paint made on my old house Eloise. He also filled in the joints with silicone where the wood siding joined. After painting,it made for a smooth looking wall.

Eloise, were they able to get the work done? It seems you are getting a break from the rain now, but gaining winds instead (at least in my area!).

gyr_falcon, yes, thanks for asking. They think they will be done today! All I see yet to do is touch up, the doors and the trimming. As stanofh said, "the difference a new coat of paint made on my old house" -- my old, neglected house almost looks new! I highly recommend this painting company, because what was sold to me on the initial estimate, is exactly what I got. They are honest, professional, an their workers are hard-working because they are treated fairly (not those picked up at a home depot lot).

Now unfortunately because of the winds and flying debris, the plastering of my pool will likely not happen today. My urgency for completion of this work is a Dec. 8 deadline from my Lending Office.

Isn't it wonderful when you get a good company doing the work? That is one of the hardest lists to reestablish when moving to a new area IMO. Unfortunately, weather does not seem to grasp the concept of deadlines. Glad it is almost completed.

Even though the natural climate is pretty much scrub brush here, I've basically been trying to turn the yard into a rainforest paradise, with a mix of tropicals, subtropicals, and temperate plants. I like the lush green feel, like everything is bursting with life. So the rain is very welcome. Interestingly my rainforest only seems to require a moderate amount of watering.

It's plants that standalone by themselves that are prone to drying out, so once a forested area has been established, each plant then does not require as much water. (That's often one of the main reasons it's so difficult for habitats to recover from deforestation)

Rain day and night now. No El Nino,No La Nina, just rains from the west! North or South Pacific. One night its 39f cold..2 days later its 60f at the lowest.

There is no way the bay area is going to have to have water fines this year. Conserve is always.
