I fear I would tire of this quickly.

I love it in that application!

    The dog isn't digging it.

I like it, but not with that chandelier, the silhouettes, the...well, everything else they have there-except of course the pup.

I didn't even notice the chandelier with all those zebras...the first thing I noticed was the dogs face....he's saying "i know right?!" LOL

I like the wallpaper. I don't like all the stuff on the wall interrupting it.

I like it, but the chandelier is unworthy of it. This is one thing that keeps me from making any similar bold/playful statements in my own home--to be done right, the rest of what you see has to play along in tempo or volume or depth or something. To have a wow paper requires that there by other wow factors as well, or perhaps the absence of ho-hum factors? That wallpaper would look better with the blue lamp and the wall art removed. (To me).

Are those incipient unicorns sprouting from the heads of the creatures, or am I desperately in need of a new and improved screen?

    .

I like the unplanned feel of the eclectic mix, even that sort of disconcerting face that seems to be reflected in the mirror. Maybe my screen again?

I like the movement of color in the chair fabric pattern and the rug. I would take out the umbrella stand blue and the blue lamp. Add a red/orange colored lamp for the bold pop or color!

    Or a Yellow Lamp!

I like the wallpaper and I AM wallpaper shopping so I looked it up. They really are being shot at and are running for their lives. That sort of kills the fun. :(

I could not see that from the photo. I agree, Fori !

Poor pup! He looks as if he has grown immune to it, but not really. I don't care for it, and especially not with the chandelier.

What a strange place to put the tiny silhouettes on the left, as they get lost, as well as the little shelf with the object on the right. And, is there a coat hook on the left with a black leather jacket hanging from it?! I like the rug, and of course the dog, though!

All those things are interesting but together they look like a mess. Like Linelle said, even the dog has doubts.

I'll take the floor, the rugs and the pooch. The rest can go out with the trash.

I think the wallpaper is awful, made even worse by the way it's been cluttered up with extraneous items. The dog seems to be saying, "Help meeeeee" - pleading with his eyes.

At first I didn't get past the dog's expression to notice the arrows. That's a disgusting sight, zebras running for their lives from arrows. Who picks out an image like that?

A definite no for me. Too much stuff vying for my eyes' attention.

The zebras remind me of a leaping Minoan bull, but without the Minoans. The rest of the stuff does not enhance the wallpaper, but I might like the wallpaper with the right furniture and accessories, but I would still prefer a Minoan fresco.

I also noticed that photographer's face in the bottom right corner of the mirror, as Nancy did.

The same people that would proudly display a mounted zebra head on the wall. ::shudder::

Who in the world dreams up wallpaper designs like that??

Scalamandre. Apparently it's sort of historicalish, like the banana leaf papers.

And you can get dishes. Thanks, Lenox!

That's why I used the term "creatures" instead of zebras - I wasn't sure.

The curved line from the neck to the top of the skull also reminds me of ancient abstractions in depicting animals.

This to me is the problem when there are particular popular or trendy decorating elements and all the online stylists and decorators use one or many (zebra wallpaper, ikat, Sputnik fixture, etc.) just because they can, not because it suits the space or they know how to use it properly, making good use of scale and other items.

This is the house of a stylist who works for the service Homepolish, which offers "personal interior design by the hour".

I'm not crazy about the wallpaper, mainly because, well, zebras, and secondly because it's so very distinctive verging on overused. But I have seen it used well elsewhere, usually with other bold and sweeping pieces to go with the bold and sweeping walls. Here's a roundup; it seems best in powder rooms. That same article mentions the history of the wallpaper -- it was created by Scalamandre in the 1940s for an Italian restaurant, Gino's, in Manhattan owned by a friend of the Scalamandres, at a time when the "swanky safari" theme was popular, started in part by the the hugely successful book "I Married Adventure" by Martin and Osa Johnson, with the distinctive zebra cover (a few years ago the book started popping up again on all the design blogs, not because of the book's content but because of the cover).

I'm pretty sure it's recent popularity is in part because it was used in the "Royal Tenenbaums", in Gwyneth Paltrow's character's bathroom. It's got that quirky Wes Anderson thing going for it.

Wes Anderson? Who is he? ,,, Or should I care?

I don't know Wes Anderson, but I am familiar with George Venson's Voutsa Wallpaper - see examples from Christine Dovey's site. George got some of his inspiration from ancient cave art.

    Wes Anderson: here you go.

I don't like the wallpaper and would have chosen a fun paper from timorous beasties instead. PS like other poster said, I've been thinking too about putting something fun up on my walls but as maggiepattie said, I would need to up my game in other areas too:)

As an alternative to the portraits in "To Each Their Own..." I'd have to take the zebras--while I looked for the right art. Fun, but maybe not for long?

Interesting story about the pattern. Still, I'd be forever explaining it to my guests.

Like zebras, don't like them being hunted. I thought these are cosmic zebras, with comets and stars falling around them..))

Very interesting story behind the pattern, Becky

Wes Anderson's movies are beautifully shot..the palettes (if you can call them so)are nothing short of amazing.

(less love the movies themselves though. but I didn't watch the "Royal Tenenbaums" yet)

While I could not live with the zebras I would enjoy visiting them in another house. Very cool!

Thanks for posting that roundup beckysharp, so interesting! I like the wallpaper but agree that the art isn't bold enough to be hung on it, and the general effect is a bit cluttered with the umbrella stand, little firewood holder, and so on.

I particularly like the paper with the rug and I'll accept the chair with the paper as well.

My mind didn't register that they were arrows at first. We have some carousel zebra tree ornaments. First impression was carousel zebras joyfully breaking away from their poles. Silly, but nicer than the arrows.

Zebras are farmed in South Africa for both hides and meat. I do understand that in ancient times hunting zebras was a way of getting food, not unlike hunting cattle. I myself am not a hunter, although I do like to fish. If I had to rely on my hunting skills for food, I would not be eating very much. I have a hard enough time killing a lobster or crab.

I do have some scraps of zebra hides that were left over from some of our upholstery jobs. I collected several heads and tails in addition to scraps and have made costumes and wearable items from them.

Thanks for the link, becky, I liked a lot of those rooms but I'm with the dog on this one!

    Where's Waldo?

Too much to be able to focus on anything until you slow down and make an effort to see what's there.

I'm surprised the zebra wallpaper is new to some of you here ... it has been quite overused the last 10 years, showing up regularly in design magazines and Houzz photos. I has worked well in some photos, but I didn't like the look of it when I saw it up close at the design center, it looks "cheap".
