Hi Sherry, it's the type tangerine that's the problem. If you are interested, there are many types of Oranges to grow that have no seeds.

First off, do you have tangerines or mandarins? Tangerines are actually a type of mandarin, to be technically correct, but many people seem to use the two terms interchangeably.

Yes, there is something that can be done to prevent seeds. When the citrus buds are about to blossom, put a fine net over the tree so that bees will be unable to pollinate the flowers. If done right there will rarely be any seeds in the fruit.

If you are looking to get seedless mandarins, Satsuma is almost seedless and Kishu is completely seedless but very small fruit size and a bit tart (still very good though).

The vast majority of satsumas are seedless so chances are it is another type of mandarin. If you tell us when it ripens and post a picture of the fruit we might be able to narrow down the variety. I agree about putting a fine net over the tree when it is flowering. That should significantly reduce or eliminate the seeds.

We have ripe fruit on the trees now. We live in South Texas. Didn't mean to post the picture twice.

These trees are 12 - 15 feet tall. Would it help to put a net on the bottom half of the trees, because we usually pick the fruit on the bottom half? Or would you have to cover the entire tree?
