TV commendation? (38 - 40 inch screen)

This is for the living room, but I don't want TV to be focal. The area I'd put it won't support a larger unit, and I won't need it larger.

Viewing distance - 7 to 9 feet. (Seems fine when I am at a friend's place who has a 35-36 inch screen.)

I'd watch probably no more than 5 hours a week, often less.

I leave the lights on - not bright, but enough to read during ads and the boring bits (i.e., sports during news broadcasts). Grew up with it that way - family would watch, read, or in the case of Dad, fall asleep.... grin.

Viewing would mostly be news, documentaries, and movies - DVD or videotapes. Could want to set it to watch YouTube or Amazon Prime streaming videos.

I'd want to hang the unit from the wall - preferentially with a swivel close into the wall. Want a tv with reliability factored in.

Thoughts? For my needs is LED or LCD better? Recommended brands? Is high density overkill?
