Adding a bathroom - add a tub, too?

Hello!

I currently live in a 3 bed, 1 bath 1,500 sq ft loft bungalow. The master bedroom is the "loft" part of the house, which is segmented by the stairs down the middle.

We plan on converting the smaller half of the bedroom into a master bath. Since the bathroom will already be on the smaller side (approx 10' x 12'), we are considering just installing a large, luxurious shower and omitting the tub. The current bathroom does have a tub, although it is pretty shallow.

My question is- will this eventually hurt resale? We never use our tub, but don't see ourselves in this home longer than 5 more years. Will having an additional bath outweigh the fact that it is tub-free?

As long as the other bathroom has a tub you should be fine. I would never consider a home without a tub.

Having a nice shower in the master with more room is better than trying to squeeze in another tub, and the extra bathroom will add a lot your resale value, with or without an extra tub.

Agree with the comments here as the master usually has a grand shower, some with a tub but you would need a larger room. As long as your home has a tub you will be fine. Your resale value will be right there with the new upgrade. Show us some photos if you can along the remodel time and finished look!!

In most places, a tub in the master is not required as long as there is one in the other bathroom. I would focus on making it feel as big as possible.
