does the mulch catch on fire?

I'm making a fire pit with seating. The pit will be surrounded by mulch.

Bonnie, The firepit ring has to be larger than normal to accommodate for sparks that might fly out during the fire. There has been no fires with this firepit in the pic! :) the firepit is 6' Diameter in this particular project. Hope this helps!

What did you put under the mulch to prevent weeds? I assume you removed topsoil first? I love this idea!

rtrkat, You can put the landscape fabric under the mulch or in this case we put the mulch 3" depth to prevent weeds. There are a few weeds that pop through but we spray with roundup on occasion. This site was naturally flat so no topsoil was removed. But if you did this on a slope or slight slope then topsoil would need to be removed. Glad you like! :)

Roundup for a few weeds that pop up? Just pull em and burn em - save a few dollars, strengthen your arms!
