Very cool Sey, should be interesting to see how things go. I like doing garden experiments, you never know how things might turn out. My lil experiment was my Fall grow, I wasn't even sure if I would get tomatoes, since I started so late for the fall season. Good thing I kept up with it, everything has been working out just fine, been getting lots of tomatoes. This weekend we have a freeze warning, so it will be interesting to see how my plants do. I covered them up and brought out some lights, I'm pretty confident they are going to be just fine.

P.S. I now know I'm addicted to growing things and it's official my neighbors think I'm crazy. Oh well...... the rewards are too good to stop

UPDATE 12-10

I re potted my mystery tomato into a 6 gallon pot and snuggled it with some fresh pine straw.

Last night the temperatures dropped to 25F. Tomorrow night will be a carbon copy. Day temps (highs) will be around 45F. So she will stay inside for 48 hours.

How is your winter garden doing ? Mine is gurrreat. I have also 18 garlic plants, out in the cold. They seem to be enjoying every bit of it.

Your plant looks very healthy! Interesting to see that it can survive those low temperatures.

My friend who took all my seedlings from me gets cold very easily and her part of UAE she lives in is out in the desert whew the night temperatures are a colder than Dubai.

She keeps worrying that the night temperatures of 10C (50F) are going to kill the plants. Over here in Dubai the night temperatures are averaging at 17C (64F) so it is definitely cooler where she is. I just told her that her plants will probably just grow slower than mine but they will survive those temperatures.

My Winter Garden Update 12-24-16

The tomato is getting some fresh air and soaking the sun in a beautiful December day. The garlic have seen 24F to 32F many nights.No problem.

I grow garlic almost every year... lots of it. About 300 plants or so. My wife braids up the larger, nicer ones and we give them as gifts. I plant mine in Mid Sept, before the "cold" sets in, so the roots and leaves have time to grab hold. They grow all winter until I harvest them right before I plant out my tomatoes... the first week of April. Don't worry about covering them... mine have survived nights down to the low teens w/o damage... they will get real limpy and wimpy looking during the real cold temps, but bounce right back once the temps climb back up. Make sure to pinch off the skates, so they keep growing larger. The skates are a delicacy for people in the know.

I just buy garlic heads in the grocery store, and separate into cloves. Don't use elephant garlic. It is not a garlic at all, and tastes very oniony. It is either an onion or leek. Deceptive marketing at best.

I have grown garlic, lots of it when I was in GA. I know cold, freeze, snow don't bother them. What I have now is just a token. My garden bed was not ready to plants more of it. Me too, just plant cloves from store bought garlic.

I used to plant them in October and November and harvested late June to early July.

You meant to say to cut escapes ? Yeah I cut them and used them in cooking like scallions. They are sold at Asian markets in the spring. Not cheap !

Yes, elephant garlic belongs to onions family. Not tasty and flavorful. I don't grow them either.

ticodxb, It is off season here to grow tomatoes outside. Dec, Jan, Feb are our winter months. Our tomato growing / planting season starts late March.

My plant is mobile , stays inside overnight and whenever it gets under 50F. I leave it outside in the rain, if it is not too cold out.

Yes , we are heading to some rain and wet weather. But temperatures are fine for this time of year.
