its just too tall, not too wide. i would go with something longer if you want the grand look. post a picture of the room.

Thanks so much -- Quick picture -- on my way out, did not realize how dark it came out but it is a fairly bright space which is not reflected here. What do you think? I love the lantern but probably should have not jumped the gun. I also need something for my foyer and for above the landing on my stairs. Think the lantern is too big for my foyer but would work over the stairs, it's just that it would not really be seen in that space.

over the table would be perfect, i think it's supposed to be 36 inches above table. someone has posted the exact measurements for hanging lights

I agree with your solution for over the table. I don't know on the actual height dimension but only suggest making it high enough so people are able to see each other without a lantern to dodge and not so high that it feels detached from the dining table. So, just above the height of people's heads while seated.

fall it somewhere between 24-36 inches of the top, I always say be there the day off and eyeball it.

also I just don 't know that you need pendants in this space, the kitchen. I would think about changing the bar stools to blend better with the chair in there and the nook table. you cant do anything heavy in this space as it would be in the eye line of everything, so if anything i would do two of something smaller.

Thanks for the reply. I think I agree and so appreciate your opinion. We will eventually redo the kitchen, recently did the dark wood on the floors. need to change the cabinet color, hate to change the granite but I have always hated the black since we moved in (and so hard to keep clean). Also will change the white table in the sunroom to a more rustic wood table that is a little bigger (we have 3 boys over 6 feet so it is getting crowded). Will be a slow process -- I just had to redo the light fixtures since we still have the gross builder brass fixtures throughout the house. This is what I chose for the flush mounts because I did not want to do bronze and thought it would be neutral for the rest of the fixtures we ultimately choose:

I prefer downlights on an island since they need to be functional not just pretty I think 2 smaller pendants would be a better choice

Where did the oversized lanterns come from? Manufacturer? I would like to put one on each side of

my bed hanging on a pretty bracket. Thoughts?
