I'm working on a full kitchen remodel. I have talked to a few professionals and have another coming tomorrow. This is the size of my kitchen. The window in the lower left corner is the problem.

My plan was to remove the wall on the right, which leads to the dining room, and put a peninsula there, then break through the wall on the bottom to set the fridge back, because that backs up to a closet. Initially I thought about setting the fridge back enough to use just 12" deep cabinets along the rest of the wall there to not obstruct the window too much, but then it leaves a huge space in the middle that is too small for an island or table, and it also gives me less space in those base cabinets and makes me lose the entire closet. So I started thinking about putting full size cabinets there. The problem is that the window is only about 3 inches from the wall, and extends down below where the counter would be by about 6 inches.

Here is a mock up with the wall on the right moved back a foot (to simulate taking that wall down and centering the peninsula where the wall used to be (half in the old kitchen and half in the old dining room), and the wall behind the fridge is also moved back to simulate breaking into the closet so the fridge can be flush with the other cabinets. Ooops, when I moved those walls it messed up that door on the left. That door is 27 inches from the wall, so there is actually room for the cabinets there, and less room between the door and the window than is shown here. I also realize there is a gap in the cabinets in the top right corner but rather than play around with the various ikea dimensions to get a fit, I just left it there since I'm not too concerned with that corner right now. Since I'm planning to take that wall down anyway, I can move the peninsula a few inches either way.

I'm not planning to move the stove and sink, they are shown in the same locations that they are now. Currently the fridge is in the corner where we are removing the wall, but there is already water over where I have it shown in the mock up.

At the bottom corner I stopped the cabinets a foot from the window.

I have mocked this up in my kitchen using a rolling butcher block cart that is almost the same height and width as a counter and I didn't think it looked bad, but the 3d render looks pretty awful. I don't know if it's the fact that the pantry is there and so big and tall, or if it's the angle or what. This was done with the ikea software. I don't plan on using Ikea, and I plan on having white cabinets.

I'm told it's going to add a ton to the price if we want to move that window (outside of the house is brick). We have talked about taking that window out and putting in double glass doors in the middle instead, but with taking down the wall between the kitchen and dining room (it's load bearing) and breaking into the closet, and getting everything brand new, I'm pretty much at my limit budget wise.

Any suggestions? opinions? There is plenty of light coming in from the window above the sink and the window on the door and only a little of the second window is obstructed so I'm not really worried about light, but does it just look wrong to have the counter that close to a window?
