Leland cypress root help, propagation

Can I carefully dig down into ten year old Lelands and agitate the root so it will sprout new little ones. I hope I said that right.


I do do it all the time with my crepe myrtles but I wasn't sure if it will work with Lelands .


sort of a propagation method I guess...
