A professional would use a conversion finish off site, not standard paint. They would then create a "tent" in home for your faceframes and box sides. 5-7K for an average sized kitchen. More if larger. Substantially more if you want a glaze.

This will last and be durable.

I assume you are talking about cabinets that are already installed in a home and that the question refers to now updating them. We have over the years painted cabinets for customers on-site. We use SW Proclassic for this. We haven't had any complaints about how they hold up, but we also try to create realistic expectations. IMO, I don't think any paint will hold up the same as a factory applied lacquer finish.
