Help me decorate!

I am having trouble decorating our new house. It is only 960 sf so we are trying to come up with the best ideas for storage in the loving room. We have a one year old that is getting into everything right now so that is a challenge to leave any decorative items on tables! We are planning to close in the doorway behind the chairs so that we might wall mount the TV to leave space for traffic entering the front door. The ivory storage ottomans can go but we still would like a storage ottoman to rest our feet and hide toys inside. Should I add curtains to soften the windows? The bamboo shades are privacy lines so we don't need ten but was thinking a little fabric could add a punch of color and fill in the wall space behind the couch. We are in our late 20s and I'm finding myself stuck between the young boho urban outfitters style and a more traditional grown up style.

Here are some more pics of the adjacent dining room and kitchen. Wanting I paint kitchen darker color perhaps a olive gray green? Also we will be bringing the wood floor from the living room on into the dining, hallway, and possibly kitchen... May do kitchen with tile to break up the wood..?

Sorry about the mess in kitchen and all my typos! I'm being held prisoner by a one year old sleeping in my lap and all I have to my iphone to type on!

I think a darker color in the kitchen - in an olive gray green would look good in the kitchen with your cabinets. I think I would keep it more midrange shade and not go too dark. I think white sheers might work well for your living room windows and add some lightness and softness there. For an ottoman, perhaps a lighter gray color in a larger square. For the art in the living room, given the dark color of the paint, I would go lighter. Really like what you've done so far!

You have such limited space so I would think the more open the space the better it would be for you. Have you thought are re-arranging the furnishings? I thought you might consider putting the heavy piece of the room the sofa in front of the window area. Then move the media to between the pair of windows. Allow your Zebra striped chairs to float in the room as you have them now. Window coverings would soften the room and if they were in the lighter color of the base/window casing moldings they would freshen/lighten the room. You may have to cheat the chairs sligthly towards the entry area to gain alittle more space. Bring up the color value in the artwork, add a pattern rug and some different throw pillow will brighten up the room. Have fun.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I have not tried a different arrangement because I was trying to avoid covering up the floor vent under the window but I just moved everything around and took some pics to at least see what it would look like! I tried to keep the chairs both floating together but it doesn't allow much flow from the living room to dining room. I also tried splitting them up. I will post pics of both. Perhaps I need a bigger club chair to go by the TV? The cleared out entry way could allow me space to put a bookshelf or console table/small desk on the far wall as you come in the front door. What do you think for these arrangements or go back to old way?

Me Again,,,,,,take a photo upon entering the room from the entry door. I think the arrangment where you split up the chairs is nice because it allows for more movement throught the room. I also think when you can install some window coverings it will balance out the weight of the sofa on the window wall. Maybe instead of a book shelf at the entry you could just add art,,,,,,or a floating shelf with art above it. Just remember in small spaces less is more.

Don't mind the mess in the dining room.. Crammed all the baby toys in there for the pics. Lol So maybe sheer white or ivory curtains? The view out the 2 smaller windows is of my neighbors windows just steps away so I never really can open the shades... Perhaps with sheer curtains closed and shades raised I could have more light during cloudy days...

Not sure you nee curtains, the look is clean and balanced as is. Drapes are one more thing for the baby to grab, too.
Re. the new wall: There are console units made that house TVs on a lift -serving a dual purpose of storage and entry half wal, that you might consider. The wall opposite the entrance then opens for storage furnishings.

Hello, I do see the wall area and I think maybe a narrow console with concealed storage below for any sort of kids toys would be great and then some great art above. The room appears to be very open now but I still think simple drapery panels that pick up the trim color would freshen up the room and soften it. My kids have never gotten into the window treatments and I wouldn't be concerned about that. Everyone forgets kids grow quickly.

I will look into the slim TV/console units! We don't have cable because we don't even watch TV, just a movie once in a blue moon so I would rather the TV not be the focus of the room when you walk in. Sitting here playing with my baby I feel like the room is more accessible now and I like that! Hopefully the room will stay cool with the vent covered. I closed it so more air would travel out of the other one across the room. I'm so happy I tried a new arrangement! I am looking for art for all rooms of the house right now and have bought a couple things but not hung yet... Thanks so much guys!

Need to get these framed. Might stick the "not all who wonder" print in my bedroom and put butterfly's in living room

If I was you I would keep that floor vent open becauses it will allow heat to travel up and around that window area. I'm not a tv guy myself but it felt like the tv was entry before. I also like the images above and think the butterfly could be great if you floated this image onto a larger piece of matt board. This will overscale the image so that the butterflys appear to float and the piece will be larger for the wall area. Take Care.
