Rustoleum has an awesome product for refinishing wood cabinets. In every color you could imagine.

Wow, I really wouldn't. Those are lovely maple cabinets. It isn't that you can't paint them, I just don't see why you would since they are in a classic style and look beautiful. The finish won't be quite as durable painted either. But if you really have your heart set on it there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm with Feeny - these are gorgeous! Of course, to be fair, I'm not a fan of white cabinets - would be dirty at my house all the time. I've seen great posts about painting cabinets and the one caution was to always be sure to follow all the instructions to a T. Good luck!

Thank you. The kitchen is sooo dark! We are putting in skylights, and removing the counters marble tiles and bringing in some light bright counter tops. Removing the former owners window treatments and that should help. I will wait to paint until last, maybe I wont need to! :)

I agree - the maple is nice! Take that pelmet off the window, and you'll get more light straight away.

Try taking the doors off the upper cabinets immediately flanking the window, too - that might also give you the feeling of more light. Because they're so close to the window, they're really limiting the light that gets through.

Actually, I might be tempted to replace the cabinet to the left of the window with a couple of open shelves, and remove the one to the right of the window altogether, and/or straighten out the angled corner one, and replace it with some more open shelves running into the corner. Hope that makes sense! That'll give you a much better feeling of space and light, without losing much valuable storage.

You can also get your appliances painted a lighter colour: a few years ago I had a body shop come in and repaint ugly but quality appliances, and it made a huge difference, for a couple of hundred bucks.

I like the marble tiles - they're bomb-proof (just let them age naturally), and a good contrast to all the woodwork.
