Hyacinths are one of the trickier bulbs to grow in a warm or frost free climate and they will need a chilling period.

Place in a ventilated container (paper or mesh bag) in the refrigerator (temps 40-45F) for a period of at least 6 weeks (longer, as much as 16 weeks, is fine - but they must receive at a minimum 6 weeks of chill). After this period they are ready to be planted outdoors. They should look no different than they did when you placed them in the frig - the chilling just programs the internal workings of the bulb and encourages the breaking of dormancy.

It is very important that the frig contains no fruit during this period, especially apples. They give off ethylene gas which will abort any flowering ability in the bulbs.

Once you have passed a successful and sufficiently long chill period, the bulbs can be planted outdoors in the ground or in containers. If your temperatures are mild enough, they will start growing immediately and you should see shoots of green peeking above the soil in just a couple of weeks, with flower buds to follow.
