Brick texture

I like the texture to this brick - it looks like the brick was layered almost unevenly. My new white brick house is more uniform and doesn't have this texture. Can a certain paint or painting technique give me this look?

    This home was built in 1931. I believe the texture was most likely achieved from years of paint... and a smaller, more organic brick shape to begin with.

    "Mortar wash" is an effect that masons can achieve before the brick is painted to give normal brick this texture.

    You can also add a tinted mortar over the brick (see slurried brick).
