Any idea which species you have there. The flies in Australia may be different from flies found elsewhere.

Which Mortein spray did you use? There are a large number of them and each is meant for certain insects.

What were the ingredients? None of the web sites I looked at listed them except one reference to eucalyptus which would be more of a deterrent or repellant than something that would kill the wee buggers. Most flies have a life span of about 30 days as adults.

bug populations ebb and flo over the years ... and when you are in the middle of a bad year ... the once every 10 year plague lets call it ...... there usually isnt much you can do ...

you ought to talk to a local nursery or some such ... or the local Ag office.. or whatever you call it down there ... to see if this is a regional problem.. beyond your property ....

also ... clean up the spent flowers.. if they are just laying around rotting ...

if its a problem beyond your property ... i dont see how spraying anything in just your yard. is going to make a difference ...

They don't look like a 'fly' at all, but one of the insects knowns as true bugs.
