I'm redoing my bathroom (vanity, replacing shower tub with alcove tub and tiling the shower walls, replacing linoleum floor with tile). I already have the new vanity (white cabinet with beaded panel, white cultured marble top). I would like to take subway tile (either white or light gray) from the shower walls around to the vanity with top of the bathroom wall tile reaching the height of making the vanities backsplash (about 40 inches). My intent is to have a white and gray bathroom.

I'm getting so bent around the axles about how to replace the chestnut colored wall and door trim. All the doors and trim in the house are chestnut colored. I wish I could just swap the door and the door trim with white, but then I'd have one white door sticking out in the house and I don't feel right about having a door with two sides having different colors.

I need some ideas on this color and material (wood trim to tile) transition from not only old to new in the bathroom, but also within the whole house.
