Can you draw a plan so we can see the size of the room and where all the windows are? I would suggest maybe that you could have back to back sofas, one facing the tv and another facing the fireplace. Depending on the length in between those two walls, it could work. Then you could add some chairs on sides.
Also you could put a sofa table behind the sofa where it is now and use lamps on the table if you have floor outlets. Then arrange a couple of chairs facing the fireplace in a tighter, more intimate setting.

What a shame to turn your back from that beautiful fireplace. Can you move the TV to the right side of the fireplace? Then turn the sofa around to face them;)

Sorry, I just saw the dimensions. I think you have room to do what I said, but best to try it on paper first.

The Stone in your fireplace has beautiful color tones! I would embrace them with linens in taupe and ivory or gray and ivory or whatever your preference.

A sofa and pair of chairs is easy to move around (to adjust) and to take with you to your next home. It also allows you to bring in variety of color tones and textures.

Check out Houzz sites (click on below) so you can see room layouts, it can be very helpful to form ideabooks.

Margo. Thanks dear...That sofa is there temporarily ( we moved 3 days ago ) I don't think anyone in this planet would make that mistake. I think LOOOOL It would be a shame 4 sure .My 6 years old is on vacation and wants to watch TV :( I can not put the TV on the right side of the fireplace. It could be a GREAT option if the TV was not that big and that space not so deep, 5 ft deep.

LOOKING at it drives me crazy !! I need to buy furniture ASAP !

I am so tired ! Moving is not easy :'(

I vote for the TV to the right of the fireplace. You don't have to have it on the wall. It can be on a console with maybe a bookshelf behind it.

BUT - if you like the TV where it is, can you buy two straight back sofas and put them back to back? You end up with two rooms in one. A TV room and a fireplace room.

OR - set up the TV room with the sofa and pillows as you have them - moving the sofa closer to the TV - and put two club chairs, wingback chairs or rocking chairs in front of the fireplace.

That is beautiful but it would not work for me ... I have a TV wall on the opposite side os the fireplace

Oh! I wanted to say, moving IS hard. I moved over 3 years ago and am still traumatized.

What do you think of mounting your tv on the current wall (have an electrician hide the wires and cords) and mirror the room with double sofas and a console table in between them or sectional facing the tv and two chairs and ottoman facing the fireplace. The attached pictures are just for guidelines not necessarily style.

Here is a pic of our lake house family room. Very similar setup

. I put the TV next to FP on a cart with wheels. We just swivel it around to face wherever we want to watch it, Then put a sofa facing the lake and two swivel chairs with back to the lake (can swivel in any direction when needed). Hope it helps.

downbytheriver Thanks :* That space must be 6 ft x4 ft . I can not visualize a TV console for a odd space like that .I am getting a new TV also ...

See what I mean ! That is not a carry on ...

You said your space is 28' x 18' it's plenty of space. What's you personal style rustic, traditional, contemporary, eclectic? And if you mount the tv it will free up floor space and give it a cleaner look.

It doesn't have to be a TV console. Ours is a kitchen cart on wheels. We have a bigger TV on it now...I think 54 or 60" and it still works. It keeps the TV high enough to be visible from all the seating. You might have to think about furniture other than the standard TV console to make it work. The wheels are important because our space beside the TV is deep also, so we can roll the TV out a bit for visibility and tuck it back in if we want to when not in use.

You should mark out your new seating dimensions so you can make sure you have ample space in the room. You can do so with painters tape and this will give you a visual.

The focal point in your room is the fireplace, so what I would do is get to 3 seat sofas exactly the same and place them facing each other so you can watch TV, enjoy the fireplace and the view that you said you have outside. Also I would get two comfortable arm chairs and place them on each side of the fireplace. Either get a nice coffee table or a big ottoman between the two sofas. I would also get a bigger TV and mounted on the wall, and if you still need a TV unit get one the same width of the TV and that all your equipment can go inside it looks much nicer. Also you need to add color to the room, even if you have carpet I would get an area rug in the color scheme you like (after you select your sofas, which should be solid color) and then do some throw pillows using some of the colors in the area rug. And finally a painting above the mantel that works with the rest of your selection will be great!

Your welcome sanyusa! If you don't have enough room maybe if this is your family room (I'm assuming) you could do a gaming table chairs or with concealed seats and you can have family game night in front of the fireplace. Again the photos are just a reference.

i meant a new console for the space it is in right now btw. the corner is weird, could it go on the left side?

When watching TV, there are times when one wants to also watch the roaring fire in the fireplace, so 1 sofa facing 2 chairs, or 2 sofas facing one another is what I'd do.

I would keep the TV where it is and create something like below for it. You can add your rustic decorations as shown(tall vases and such). The TV does not need to be on the wall, but you'd want cabinets for your equipment.
