Too many little trinkets. You have a good idea to group things with like colors like gold but I think they are all too small. Maybe move the tall candle stick on the other side of the fireplace (opposite the picture frame) Beautiful picture by the way and keep the other little thing next to the vase make it like a group of 3 and get rid of the other stuff. Try that, but in the end if you are happy with what you have keep it.

I agree with others; don't detract from the big piece -- photo in another place, and fewer things, grouped to each side. Now, where can one find a piece like emerald man?!

I don't think anyone is suggesting you move the Inca piece! The photograph is what should be moved so it doesn't detract from the Inca piece.

Do you have any large candles or larger ornaments the inca piece is very nice by the way

Hi again pao -- You're getting there! No space between the items, just two groups to either side of the good Lord of Sipan. (Not all the way to the ends of the mantel.)

Try grouping together on the left side of the mantle the small box and lantern (that are now grouped with the picture) and the pyramid shaped object. Group them rather than lining them up.across the mantle. On the right side of the mantle put the tall candle holder. Remove everything else.

I am wondering if you may have hung the framed piece too high over your fireplace. Maybe you should bring it down some or even put it on the mantle & lean it against the fireplace wall. Then group objects of 3 varying height objects such as vases, candlesticks, etc., closer together toward one end of the mantle then perhaps put some sort of greenery toward the other side of the mantle. If not that, you could stack a few books horizontally & put a box or decorative something on top of that. Good luck as you search for just the right arrangement.

When you accessorize...you need to group things together and one of the best formulas is odd numbers...and then sizes matter too! So tall medium and short....work best! In this case use two groups and bring in a greenery that will help soften things up. As far as the accessory item on the wall...it needs to come down closer to the mantle. Do I like it? Not really...but maybe there's a story of why you do...and that is all that matters.

Glad Vickie Daeley agrees that the art piece on the fireplace needs to come down for it does look too high. Just looking at the photo gives me the impression that one must have to look up to see it rather than view it at a more pleasing eye level placement. Greenery will soften the look as she said. So play around with various things in odd number groupings for the mantle & find a place for some of those items that are on the mantle now as an accent for some other furnishings in your home.
