Thank you, thats actually great advice that really helps.

An underserved area - that you could use after the main rush of spring veggie sales - is local native and adapted perennial plants like penstemons. Fall planting is fine for them, and you would have the seed starting space available.

Also, don't forget to raise and sell starters for fall/winter vegetables.

You'll have to do some local marketing and PR to get people thinking about fall as a planting time.

I don't know how fall vegetable transplants would sell in your area but I wouldn't do it without a pre-order.

What I do though is to start in 3 or 4 series so that you have a steady crop of optimum looking plants (6-8 weeks from seed). The peak sales are almost always within a week +/- of last frist-free date but there are always early starters, late starters and ones who started too early and need to replant.

Perennials are a different commodity. You don't need to worry so much about multiple plantings. I've tried selling only blueberry plants and although I emphasize Spring or Fall planting the customer interest dies after Spring "Get outdoors" frenzy is gone.

Letting people pre-order fall transplants, biennials, and perennials is a great idea - you have the money or at least a 50% deposit on the plants.

Just don't oversell.

Your personal experience, even of just a few years, and talking to
other sellers in your area is your best guide. No two locations are the
same.

Some tomato sellers find heirlooms to be great sellers for
them, others have dropped all others for cherry types which sell best
where they are. In my location, our most experienced grower with decades
of selling here has even dropped beefsteak types as well as all others
except mid-sized round red tomatoes.

When I first grew for
sale here a little over 20 years ago I was amazed to find people driving
into my farm to see if I had kohlrabi--which I did not even have that
first year. I did the next year and doubled each of the next couple of
years selling them all. That was before they were common in the stores.Trust
in your own experience and judgment. Learn from your market. Don't
overextend in untested crops and keep growing each year.
