Help.... need help turning this fireplace into a beautiful focal point of my living room. Paint the mantel, change the tile.....? I have no idea

I would be tempted to paint the entire fireplace surround black in a semi-gloss finish, walls matte. If that is too severe for you you could see what the stained wood looks like against the black wall or you could paint it wood work color.

I love a wall hung t v on a black wall. It disappears.

Paint just that wall black. This is the perfect example of why accent walls were created.

Painting the mantle white and wall in a deeper accent color will dramatically change the space - choose colors that suit well your surrounding environment.

A 400 square foot room simplly does not compare to a 100 square foot room. A black tiny little cave is not going to be at all glam.

The tv is going to stay above the mantle. I'm liking the idea of the black wall. I was previously told by a friend to black wax the mantle, just made me a bit nervous with the black tile.

Like Jarrett's suggestion to paint mantle and wood work white.
Then decide if you want to paint wall shade darker.

I do like the dark walls and fire surround, but only if the brick inside was a bit lighter, it may look good with the wood painted white with dark walls. I like the charcoal opposed to black. Love the way they have framed the TVs in pic
